 Famara beach is the only beach on the north western side of the island. It is also the windiest and the best for surfing, although the ocean currents are dangerous here, so swimming is discouraged. Red flags were up right along the beach when we were there.It is a fantastic, long stretch of golden sand, with no concessions to the tourist whatsoever: no sun loungers, no hotels, no parasols. To be honest, the parasols would be a waste of time anyway: it really was very windy. The wind has blown quite a lot of litter onto the beach and there are no beach cleaners here, so you just have to put up with it. MORE... |

The waves are fantastic though and you can arrange surf board hire and tuition. Surf School Lanzarote is based here and claims to be the only British Surfing Association Level Four approved school outside the UK. Famara beach is classed as naturist friendly.
